We all have had times when we get stuck, are forced to make a change or become overwhelmed from dealing a difficult situation.
My clients have faced challenges such as:
π being unexpectedly fired β despite doing great work.
π coping with a child who had cancer, or a loved one who was very ill.
π dealing with their own diagnosis of cancer, or other personal-health issue.
π hating their job, despite being good at it, and unclear about next steps.
π parenting challenging kids and trying not to let the struggle take over their lives.
π debating whether to take an attractive promotion, yet unsure if thatβs what they truly wanted.
π deciding whether to stay or leave their spouse.
π feeling exhausted just “going through the motions,” and ready to start living in a more intentional way.
All of these clients saw positive outcomes β even though their situations didn’t necessarily change.
Different approaches helped different people, but there was one thing that consistently helped everyone with their next steps:
Radical self-care.
When these individuals truly put themselves first β consistently and in a positive way β they found more clarity, peace and joy. Who doesn’t want more of that?
What does radical self-care mean?
It goes beyond bubble baths, even though those are great!
Healthy eating and exercise are part of it, but radical self-care includes:
π saying “NO” to people and things that drain you.
π taking time to meditate, journal or find our own stillness every day.
π allowing ourselves to feel all our emotions and not just distract ourselves from pain–it is the quickest way to move through our emotions.
π purposely finding things that give you joy–like taking my dog to the ‘dog beach.’
π intentionally scheduling your priorities, ones that give you wellness every day.
π being kind and gentle with yourself β which means sometimes eating the cookie β if that helps you get through the day.
π getting support, whatever that means to you.
